Well, the long drawn out battle is over for me. I decided to go with a PC and that’s what my wonderful wife bought me for my recent birthday. I had gone back and forth for a long time about whether or not to get a Mac or a PC and I settled on a PC. My wife went out and bought a new HP dv6885SE Notebook (see it here) from the store and I am really enjoying it! Thank you Baby!
There were several reasons why I went with a PC and here’s a few of them:
- I already had Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 for Windows. I didn’t want to have to buy them again for OS X.
- The hardware is essentially the same these days and I couldn’t justify spending roughly $1,000 more for hardware when what I was really after was the $130 operating system on it.
- Since my full-time gig is in the Navy and the government heavily uses Microsoft software, it makes it easier to do work on a Windows machine and not risk compatibility issues.
All-in-all, I’m very happy with the HP notebook. It runs very fast and Photoshop CS3 loads in about 5 seconds! It’s got an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz CPU, 3 GB of RAM, a 250GB Hard Drive, an nVidia 256MB 8400GS video card, a DVD-RW drive with LightScribe, a 12-Cell Lithium Ion battery for long periods between charges, and a 15.4″ widescreen display. I really like the HDMI output too because I can plug my laptop into an HD monitor or TV and edit images. How cool is that?!
Sorry Mac, I would have really liked to have owned you… you were just too expensive for a guy on a budget like me! I could justify the extra expense.
